Painter and photographer Karen J. Lloyd graduated in 2004 with Departmental Honors from the University of Vermont with a BA in English and minor in Animal Science.

Growing up in the historic, coastline village of Mystic, Connecticut, Karen found herself surrounded by premier examples of contemporary art from a young age. Her earliest public exhibitions took place as a youth at two esteemed Connecticut galleries: the Mystic Art Association and Lyme Art Association. Her first winning painting entry was an acrylic on canvas in the Youth division at a Niantic, CT fine art show.

During her college years she continued to draw, paint and photograph her inspirations. An art professor encouraged Karen to consider art professionally, but it would be five years after graduation until she decided to take the plunge into art shows once again. In 2009, Karen entered her photography in a show for the first time. That decision was rewarded with winnings for two of her photography entries at the Champlain Valley Fair Art Exposition in Essex, VT: "Fair Parade Percherons" and "Dragonfly Trio" received 3rd place and Honorable Mention awards respectively.

Karen’s artwork has been juried into exhibits at the Winooski Pop-Up Gallery (2011), The Darkroom Gallery (2012 - 2014), VSA VT's Engage Exhibit (2012 - 2013), Annual UVM Alumni Art Exhibit (2013 and 2014), Boston's Institute for Human Centered Design (2014), Art + Soul (2014 and 2016), and VSA VT's Flourish Exhibit (2018), Inclusive Arts ANEW exhibit (2020) and Inclusive Arts Masked exhibit (2022 - 2023).

Solo / featured artist exhibits have been at the Block Gallery & Coffeehouse (2011), Winooski Memorial Library (2010), the O'Brien Community Center (2013), and Feldman's Bagels (2017 and 2019).

Her photography has also been included in numerous group shows including at the The Firefly Collective (2012), Winooski Holiday Art Market (2012), Burlington Beer Company (2014), Artists' Mediums (2011 - 2014), Visions of Vermont Gallery (NVAA Show 2014), and the Champlain Valley Fair Art Exhibition (2009 - 2019, 2021 - 2023).

Her painted model horses have earned numerous championships in the Northeast and have gone on to be recognized with some of the hobby’s highest awards at the Region 10 Regionals Championships and North American Nationals.

She is a member of the Northern Vermont Artist Association (NVAA).

The artist currently resides in Winooski, Vermont with her two sweet house bunnies, River and Journey.
